Crisp Slice of Action

Alma Tavern: cpa@uwe presents Bacon Sandwich

THERE'S no doubting Tim Massey's ability to write good dialogue full of sharp observation and wit. On this occasion his choice of subject matter is a little more suspect.

The problems and self-searching caused by over-indulgence at stag and hen parties are fairly well-worn paths to go along.

And although there are some nice variations on the theme with Wendy, the prospective bride, hampered by a ball and chain around her ankle and Ben, her husband-to-be, stranded in a dress, the story still develops along rather predictable lines.

It's the quality of the dialogue and crisp pace of Ned Milne's direction that keeps the pot boiling as the vegetarian Wendy attacks Ben with the ferocity of a tiger for eating a bacon sandwich.

Nick Wilkes, Murray Andrews, Rachael Catley-Lane and Nicola Rope made very real people of the simplistic bridegroom, cynical best man, bullying asthmatic bride and worldly chief bridesmaid.
